Art Opening 50 Years 5 Voices: Stories in Art, Galal Ramadan, Katya Neptune

In celebration of the Center’s 50th Anniversary, we are thrilled to present a group exhibition featuring five talented artists from our community. Each artist’s work offers a unique perspective on personal identity while reflecting the Center’s core values of creativity, education, innovation, and collaboration.

Featured artists

• Silvia Lizama’s hand-painted black-and-white photographs

• Pablo Cano’s captivating marionettes

• Patricia Schnall Gutierrez’s charcoal drawings, paintings, and multimedia works
• Kandy G. Lope’s fiber paintings, prints, stained glass, and handmade books

• Carlos Solano’s graffiti influenced paintings, symbolizing the future and the next 50 years of collaboration with emerging artists.

Descendants (Chronicles of Vision Series): Katya Neptune

Katya Neptune is an interdisciplinary Filipina Diaspora (b. 1976) artist whose practice bridges spirituality, mental health, and cultural identity. Her recent body of work, Descendants, marks a powerful turning point as she reconnects with her paternal ancestry, long absent from her life until recently.

Beyond Boundaries: Galal Ramadan

Galal Ramadan is award-winning, self-taught master colored pencil artist and art educator. Ramadan’s hyper-realistic portraits are a testament to his technical skill and his landscapes and still life images showcase his talent in design and composition. This exhibition highlights Ramadan’s artistic gifts, perseverance, and his cultural worldview.

Portraits for Humanity: Wilma Bulkin Siegel

Wilma Bulkin Siegel’s watercolor portraits capture the spirit of the sitter. With confident, loose brushstrokes that remind one of Alice Neel’s paintings, the Center is proud to showcase 7 original portraits of featuring returning Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the entire series of 30 portraits of the Faces for Human Rights series in digital video format.

Special Associated Programming – Free Arts Day:
🎭 Pablo Cano’s Musical Marionettes
Sunday, June 15 | 12–4 PM (performance at 1 PM)

Celebrate the exhibition and Free Arts Day with a special live performance by Pablo Cano, featuring his hand-crafted marionettes brought to life with music and movement. Opera singer Maria Elena Vallejo accompanies the show with classic Cuban, American, and French songs.

From 12–4 PM, guests of all ages can also enjoy a free drop-in puppet-making activity led by Jim Hammond. Performance seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
