Unlike the stark white of traditional paper, vellum offers a warm, inviting painting substrate—ranging from pale off-white to a rich honey tone—that brings a unique character to your artwork. Its natural surface variation and translucent nature is a joy to work with. In this beginner-friendly workshop, learn the basics of painting on vellum, starting with simple exercises on small vellum scraps. Experiment how paint and vellum interact, as you explore essential techniques for building color and form. Conclude the session by creating a simple drawing on vellum, applying your new skills in a supportive and creative environment.
* (1) 5×7 piece of prepared by-product calfskin (Pergamena Parchment Vellum) is included in the price of the class. A detailed list of required materials is provided with registration. Please bring your lunch.
This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Friday, October 3, 2025.
