Juneteenth 2025: From Roots to Wings

Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of four million enslaved African Americans. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it marks June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived to announce the abolition of slavery—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Looking ahead to Juneteenth 2025, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Black Advisory Business Council, in collaboration with various community groups, will present a vibrant celebration featuring food, music, art, and a wide range of Black-owned business vendors. Centered around the theme “From Roots to Wings,” this event invites the community to honor Juneteenth’s legacy and celebrate the resilience, heritage, and achievements of the African American community.
