The concert will be an exciting one featuring the KZN Youth Orchestra, as well as performances from the Highbury Djembe Drummers and Senior Primary Choir.
The programme encompasses a variety of genres, including music from the Baroque and Romantic periods, movies and musicals, and rock and pop. Enjoy Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, Korsakov's Scheherazade, Monti's Czardas, some South African music from Johnny Clegg, the theme from Mission Impossible, All That Jazz and the timeless Mamma Mia!
The KZNYO is home to around 60 talented young classical musicians, ranging in age from 10 to 22.
Over the years, they have performed at various venues and festivals around South Africa, from the Music in the Mountains Festival with the Drakensberg Boys Choir, to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda and as far as the Stellenbosch Chamber of Music Festival. They have performed several times at the Hilton Arts Festival, the Royal Show, the prestigious Starlight Pop Opera event and the Botanical Gardens. They have also toured internationally; in 2013 they shared the stage with the Bremen Youth Orchestra in Germany, playing to an audience of about 17000 people! They perform regularly at school benefit concerts, fundraising and corporate events and retirement complexes around Durban, Margate, Umdoni, Pietermaritzburg, and Howick. The exuberant and talented young performers are a joy to behold.
Conducted by Lykele Temmingh, with narration by Cathy Peacock, the concert is excellent family entertainment!
Tickets are R100 for adults, R80 for pensioners and scholars are free.
