About the event

An illustrated talk on the history of papermaking at Frogmore Paper Mill
An illustrated talk on the history of paper making at the historic Frogmore Paper Mill. There will also be a demonstration of making paper in its most basic form and an opportunity to purchase some unusual and unique papers. Hertford is significant in the history of papermaking as the location of Britain's first recorded commercial paper mill, Sele Mill, which was founded by John Tate around 1488. In 1803 Frogmore Paper Mill was the place selected by Henry and Sealy Fourdrinier for the trials of their newly patented paper machine. Thus began the paper’s industrial revolution leading to the cheap, plentiful paper products that we all use every day of our lives.

Visitors welcome - £5.00 on the door. HAS members free. Refreshments.
