🐶 Puppy Socialisation Classes 🐶
📍When and Where: Classes held at the Herne Centre, Herne Bay on Thursdays at 6:30pm. Booking is essential for a place in the class!
🐾 Open to vaccinated puppies up to 16 weeks old, Wildshaped’s Puppy Socialisation Classes are the perfect way to start introducing your puppy to the wider world.
❔Did you know?: Puppy Socialisation is not just about meeting other dogs and people - it’s about gently exposing your puppy to new sounds, experiences, environments and situations in safe and controlled ways. The best time to do this is during the socialisation window of 3-14 weeks old (but it can still be beneficial after this time too).
❔Why socialise your puppy?: Studies suggest that having good quality introductions to new and novel things during this socialisation window can help puppies cope better with stress and negative experiences as they grow into adult dogs and beyond. It can even help to lessen the chances of your puppy developing behavioural issues as an adult dog.
❔So should your puppy still meet and play with other dogs?: A big misconception is that you should introduce your puppy to lots and lots of other dogs. While it IS good for your puppy to have interactions with other dogs, the ‘WHO’, ‘HOW’ and ‘HOW MUCH’ are really important. Too much can lead to your puppy getting frustrated whenever they see another dog, or picking up bad habits from ‘rude’ dogs who don’t have great social skills, while introducing your puppy to the wrong dog could even lead to some negative experiences for them, which can have the OPPOSITE effect and cause fear or uncertainty around other dogs. As part of the class we will be covering the ‘HOW’s and ‘HOW NOT’s of introducing your puppy to other dogs.
