What remains of colonial law in today’s world? What changes has modern law brought to postcolonial settings? What kinds of challenges do the remnants of colonial law pose for nation states?
The Think Corner event will explore these and other pertinent questions from the perspectives of Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch colonial legal histories. The fate of Sámi law and its future prospects will offer an important comparative viewpoint.
The event is organized by Comparing Early Modern Colonial Laws (Research Council of Finland -project) and the Rule of Law Centre (Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki).
