The future of thousands of lives is currently at stake. People are forced to migrate in the hope of finding a safer place to live. Powerful states advance over people’s lives. Grassroot counterculture emerges more than ever in the fight of human rights, the stability of democracy, and justice. People take to the streets to protest, chant, and turn voice into a tool of collective action.

Noise Traffic emerges from such an urgency. Through creative methodologies, art and research, exhibitions, podcasts, sound art, community projects, and performances, it aims to map out the performativity of social systems that compose the sociopolitical complexities we live in.

This year’s edition focuses on the themes related to the performativity of migration, displacement, buffer zones, noise, and internationalisation, featuring artworks, participatory performances, talks, film screenings, sound art, and workshops by ALOES (FI/NL), Rafaella Constantinou (CY), Daniela Pascual Esparza (FI/ES), Ana Gutieszca (FI/MX), Maryam Dahir Ilmi (SO), Claudia Konyalian (CY), Argyro Nicolaou (US/CY), NO NIIN Magazine (FI), Efi Savvides (CY), Nicolina Stylianou (FI/CY), and Sumu (FI).

𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣
Vapaan Taiteen Tila is located opposite Vilhonvuorenkuja 16. Sörnäinen metro station is approx. 250m away and is served by metro and multiple bus and tram routes.

There are street parking spots on Vilhonvuorenkuja and Vilhonvuorenkatu. Both are in busy locations, so the nearest available street parking might be found further away, depending on the time of the day. It is a good idea to check a parking app like easy park or parkman. Dropping off on the street directly outside Vapaan Taiteen Tila is possible, including with a larger accessible vehicle.

From Vilhonvuorenkuja to Vapaan Taiteen Tila entrance (bomb shelter) there is a downhill (8 m) covered with cobblestones. The threshold is 2,5 cm high and the door is 127 cm wide (it’s also possible to open another same width door next to this one. This door is heavy, Noise Traffic team can help to open if needed). There’s another downhill (20 m) inside with concrete floor. On the way down there are two ramps (wide 80cm) going over footsteps (13 cm high). Threshold to the performance space is 5,5 cm high and the door 127 cm wide (it’s also possible to open another same width door next to this one. This door is heavy, Noise Traffic team can help to open if needed).

There is a cloakroom accessible through a door 90cm wide with no threshold. Access to toilets is via the cloakroom corridor. There are two gender neutral toilets, neither are accessible. The second toilet along has a slightly larger floor area. Toilet doors are 70cm wide with 3cm thresholds. The air humidity of an underground venue varies significantly according to weather conditions.

Vapaan Taiteen Tila is located in an underground bomb shelter. Lighting conditions are low throughout. The space can be very echoey at times, particularly during performances or when busy with people.
