Come have fun, meet new people, and learn forró – a beautiful, playful, and versatile Brazilian couple dance (and music genre) originally from the northeast of Brazil! This winter we offer three progressive 10-week forró courses: Fundamentals, Improvers, and Intermediate I, with a free social included for all course participants.
At Baião Helsinki we wish to spread the joy of forró! Our classes have an emphasis on the Forró Roots style, while still combining with Forró Universitário. One of our main focuses in on increasing dialogue in the dance, making the dance a conversation. Baião Helsinki is a project founded by Johanna Alatalo and Suvi Lukka.
WHICH COURSE TO CHOOSE?
FUNDAMENTALS (0-1 years of dancing forró)
In this course, we build the technical and musical foundations essential for dancing forró with comfort, connection, and confidence. You'll learn key movement vocabulary and leading-following principles used across both universitário and roots styles.
IMPROVERS (1-2 years of dancing forró)
In this course, we begin exploring the roots repertoire while refining our body awareness and technique. The movements become more complex and the technique more demanding as the focus shifts more toward forró roots, though we still draw from both major styles.
INTERMEDIATE I (2 years or more of dancing forró)
This course is intended for dancers with several years of experience in forró and a solid understanding of roots techniques. Good body awareness and balance are essential. We will deepen the roots repertoire while blending different styles. The focus shifts toward interactive dialogue in the dance, encouraging creativity, musical expression, and the development of personal style.
