Have you ever wanted to learn how to make jam and hot water bath process it to make it shelf stable? Do you have a fruit tree that will have a bumper crop this summer (or maybe a neighbor)? Let's preserve delicious summer fruit together! This is not our typical class with set recipes, this is a collaborative cooking event where we will work together to make several different kinds of jam depending on what's ripe that week and what participants bring in.
At this event:
*We will discuss basic jam recipes and procedures
*We will use the hot water bath canning method and review important safety considerations
*Participants will work together to make and process jams, which may include pitting, cutting, and peeling fruit, measuring ingredients, stirring hot pots of jam, cleaning jars, filling jars, and sealing jars in boiling water.
*Parker Hill Provisions will provide sugar, jars, seals/lids, rings, labels, and all necessary kitchen tools (jar lifters, pots, funnels, spoons).
*Scones, crackers and cheeses to sample - feel free to bring something to share
Have fruit you would like to use in class? If you'd like to bring in fruit to contribute please 1) select the corresponding class price, 2) bring at least 5 lbs and 3) email us at
aGVsbG8gfCBwYXJrZXJoaWxscHJvdmlzaW9ucyAhIGNvbQ== to let us know what you'd like to bring so we can coordinate. Any stone fruits (peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots), berries, figs, and lemons work well. They can be fresh or if you have a bumper crop now, feel free to wash them and then throw them in the freezer (stone fruit can be frozen whole). Please message us with any questions or concerns.
