Where: Shenandoah River (Harpers Ferry)
When: 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM
What: Intermediate skills practice -- river reading, ferrying, eddy catching, surfing, etc.
Who: Anyone who has been on a couple of beginner trips and wants to learn and practice more skills
Why: It's warm out, so we can easily practice on an easier river without worrying about water temperature, gaining skills to use on harder rivers.
Come join me for a day of skills practice on the Shenandoah! It's a fantastic section with tons of ledges to practice ferrying, eddying, and most importantly, surfing. There's also two more challenging rapids (Bulls Falls and Whitehorse) to make the day a bit more interesting. We'll meet at the take out, Wayside, at 9:30, then drive to the Millville put-in. I estimated a few hours for practice, but it may take more or less time than that.
Please message me on Facebook or via text (860-808-9751) if you'd like to join. It would be great to have at least a couple of days of paddling experience, but please ask if you're unsure about the difficulty.
Also, we'll want to have some other help for instruction and safety. Please message me if you'd be interested! You don't have to teach every lesson, but it would be great to have more people to demonstrate techniques and help if there are any swims.
The level is about 3.5 ft right now, which would be just about perfect. It's scheduled to rise a bit this week if we get rain, so there may be a location change if the level is above 4 ft. Stay tuned to this event page and the Whatsapp group for any updates!
