Join us for the Reading of ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ by Joseph Kesselring☠️
🎭 About the play:
Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring, played to audiences with great success in the early 40s and was quickly followed up with the famous Cary Grant movie (1944). It is a classic dark comedy that blends murder, madness, and hilarity. The play follows Mortimer Brewster, a theatre critic who discovers his sweet, elderly aunts have been poisoning lonely old men — considering it an act of charity!
To make matters worse, his brother Teddy believes he’s Theodore Roosevelt, digging "locks for the Panama Canal" which turn out to be graves in the basement! Add to that his long-lost brother Jonathan arrives with a sinister face (the result of a botched plastic surgery) and a penchant for murder.
With mistaken identities, hidden bodies, and chaotic cover-ups, Arsenic and Old Lace offers an ensemble of eccentric, larger-than-life characters, razor-sharp timing, and deliciously macabre humour.
