Navigating Nepali Cinema
Join us for an engaging conversation with acclaimed filmmaker duo Deepak Rauniyar and Asha Magrati, whose collaborative work has been instrumental in bringing Nepali cinema to international attention.
Rauniyar’s debut feature, Highway (2012), made history as the first Nepali film selected for the Berlin International Film Festival. His follow-up, White Sun (2016), earned widespread critical acclaim and was Nepal’s official submission to the Academy Awards.
Asha Magrati, an accomplished actor, screenwriter, and producer, is a leading advocate for indigenous representation in Nepali arts. A creative force both in front of and behind the camera, she recently became the first Nepali artist appointed as a jury member for the prestigious Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland.
Together, they continue to craft socially grounded, human-centered stories, including their latest production, Pooja Sir (2023), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2024.
