A Splash of the Arts will return to the Hampton History Museum on Saturday, July 12, from 10 am-4 pm.
Hampton City Schools Fine Arts Department presents the FREE series in conjunction with Arts for Learning, the Virginia Affiliate of Young Audiences. School-age children and families can interact with musicians, artists, actors, storytellers, dancers, and more. Each hour has new programming!
Schedule
10 am - Rainbow Puppets, Chessie the Manatee in the Great Hall.
This fast-paced musical by Arts for Learning’s Rainbow Puppets tells the tale of Chessie, a misguided manatee who found his way into the Chesapeake Bay. Enjoy the giant puppets and the creative look at the marine life off the Virginia coast.
10 am-1 pm - Stephanie Lask, Take-Home Poems in the 19th Century Gallery
Using fun artwork as inspiration, Arts for Learning’s Stephanie Lask guides children in writing and illustrating simple poems that they can take home with them.
11 am - Robin Vivian, The Crack in Everything in the Crabtown Gallery
Arts for Learning’s Robin Vivian uses stories, practical applications, and group participation to provide you with a fun and fresh new way to view life’s ups and downs. Learn to let go of perfection and embrace life just the way you are—perfectly imperfect, cracks and all.
12 pm - Curtis Blues, Up-cycling: Turning Junk into Musical Instruments from Africa to America in the Great Hall Gallery
Make music out of junk! Arts for Learning’s Curtis Blues performs on a variety of folk instruments made from gourds and recycled materials as he shows us how people around the world upcycle to make music.
1 pm-4 pm – Ashley Ault, Mixed Media Interactive in the 19th Century Gallery
In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll create a mixed media work of art, such as designing a personal mandala or an African Kente cloth.
1 pm-4 pm – Dai Poole, Theater Movement in the 19th Century Gallery
Explore the silent language of the body, as you learn how to create compelling characters and narratives through physical expression.
1 pm - Valerie Davis, Anansi & Me in the Crabtown Gallery
Through music and stories in “Anansi & Me,” Arts for Learning’s Valerie Davis engages young children in an interactive program that shares the wisdom of animal "trickster tales” from Ghana.
3 pm - Curtis Blues, Up-cycling: Turning Junk into Musical Instruments from Africa to America in the Great Hall Gallery

The Hampton History Museum is located at 120 Old Hampton Lane in Downtown Hampton. There is free parking in the garage across the street from the museum.
