Bites & Insights: Is dementia a vaccine-preventable conditon?

For many, dementia is one of the scariest parts of aging. While habits like exercising, eating well, and staying socially active help reduce risk, they require long-term effort. What if lowering your risk by about 20% could be as a simple as a couple of visits to your doctor or pharmacist? New research shows that vaccines for shingles, influenza, pneumonia, and more not only protect against infection but also reduce the risk of dementia and other conditions.

On October 16, at the Central Library, Hamilton Public Library, join Dr. Dawn Bowdish, Professor in McMaster’s Department of Medicine and Executive Director of the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, to explore the science behind these findings and how vaccines play a role in healthy aging.
