ACOUSTIC jam on Sunday 20th July, 1pm to 4pm featuring the Bossa Nova style.
Unplugged session, no electric guitar or keyboard etc. Acoustic piano available.
Bossa nova was developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a calm syncopated rhythm with chords and fingerstyle mimicking the beat of a samba groove. A combination of soft samba (with less percussion) and American jazz, with a focus on melody, romance, and beach culture. Perhaps one of the most famous bossa nova composers (sometimes referred to as the “father of bossa nova”) is the Brazilian pianist and guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Let’s explore some of these famous bossa nova songs. Need some inspiration? – Listen to Antonio Carlos Jobin, Astrud Gilberto, Gal Costa, Luiz Bonfa, Joao Gilberto…..
An opportunity for musicians of all levels to jam together in a supportive environment. The Jam is open to musicians of all ages and abilities and offers a fun, informal and free opportunity to get your groove on with other musos. We all play together. If need be, we can bring up chords or lyrics on projector.
