The Greenup County Slave Revolt and Underground Railroad History

Marlitta Perkins and Andrew Feight will present their research into the history of the Greenup Slave Revolt of 1829 and discuss its recent listing with the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program, and plans for its inclusion in a new Appalachian Freedom Heritage Tour of Underground Railroad sites in the Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia Tri-State region. With special guest, John Belanger, who will have on display artifacts from the Lynn, Kentucky community. Dr. Andrew Feight is the Director of Research and Outreach and Marlitta Perkins is an Outreach Specialist for Kentucky with the Appalachian Freedom Heritage Tourism Initiative. This research and the development of the Appalachian Freedom Heritage Tour has been made possible, in part, through a POWER Grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, which was awarded to the Lawrence Economic Development Corp.
