Dean Driver & Doug Baker at Common Ground's Saturday Songwriter series

A wonderful morning of music to get your Saturday off to a good start.

After decades of playing guitar, Dean Driver suddenly became obsessed with songwriting in 2008. Before he knew it, music had taken over his life in wonderful ways. To help grow the local music community, he and a crew of music-loving friends created Doodad Farm, an outdoor venue just east of Greensboro based on the honor system of donations, where everyone can experience live music. Dean has just released his second album, "For All I Know,” an eclectic collection of original songs ranging from intimate to raucous. His continuing goal is to encourage audiences to step outside their comfort zones, listen to their inner voices, and pursue their own artistic visions.

Doug Baker has been a part of Greensboro’s music scene for over 40 years as a performer, songwriter, and educator. He released his first solo recording, Navigating Life, in late 2021. Eddie Huffman, author of “John Prine: In Spite of Himself,” noted that the album “ranges far and wide musically, from a Georgia Satellites-style rocker to a pretty piano ballad,” and highlighted its “quirky, lighthearted touch reminiscent of John Prine and Loudon Wainwright III.”
