Preserving the Harvest: Pickling Basics
Looking to make your own homemade pickles? University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s hands-on food preservation workshop will teach you the basics of making crisp, delicious dilly beans (pickled green beans), including how to use a boiling water bath canner to safely preserve pickles. Learn from the experts. We will provide fresh produce and canning jars. Please bring a potholder with you to class.
Kate McCarty has been the Food Systems Professional at UMaine Extension since 2009, after serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program. She has completed the Master Food Preserver program, an intensive, hands-on training in all aspects of home food preservation. Kate manages the volunteer efforts of the 60+ Master Food Preserver volunteers statewide and teaches food preservation programs in 7 Maine counties.
