Chris Protas has dedicated his life to painting. Not just his own painting, but to the careers of hundreds of other painters. As Artist Relations Manager at AllArtWorks, he is tasked (“privileged” in his words) with talking to artists from all over the country, over thousands of calls and hours discussing their ambitions and, where necessary, providing encouragement and career advice.
He suspended his own studio practice for the last 6 years while developing his role at AllArtWorks, curating hundreds of shows, and presenting artists with the greatest care and in the best light he possibly can.
“To some degree, many artists exist in isolation, without the level of attention and respect they inherently deserve. I believe that needs to change and I hope to be a part of that change.” - Chris Protas.
Now, invigorated and energized by these experiences he has returned to the studio, and this show will provide a glimpse into many new works alongside work from the previous 10 years.
He was a founding board member of Grand Haven Artwalk and he co-founded the non-profit Fire Barn Gallery, showcasing work from all over the world. Splitting his time between West Michigan and New York City, he has resided in Grand Haven for the last 15 years.
All proceeds from the sale of his work will be donated to the AllArtWorks Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to increase access to the arts, create opportunities for artistic prosperity, and foster a deep cultural appreciation for art—Art is for Everyone.
