Behind the Bars is an interactive tour of the Huron Historic Gaol where visitors can meet in-costume actors portraying real inmates and staff from the past! Visitors will begin at different starting points inside this national historic site, and can explore at their own pace as they hear the true stories of the people who lived and worked at the gaol in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the last entry is at 8:00pm. No need to arrive early! Come any time between 7pm and 8pm. A tour takes about one hour.
Purchase your tickets at the door! Advance tickets will also be available at the Huron Historic Gaol during regular daytime hours.
If you would like to book for a large group (15+ people) or be invoiced together, please contact museum [@] huroncounty.ca ahead of your visit. Behind the Bars is a special evening event with a unique immersive experience, and is not included with regular daytime admission, joint site tokens or library card admission.

Please note that the upper floors of the jail and attached governor’s house require stairs. Thank you for understanding that there are space limitations in this historic building and your party may have to wait outside if capacity is exceeded. Lines tend to be longest at 7pm, so consider arriving at 7:30 or 7:45 pm. Staff will try to accommodate you as quickly as possible. The gaol can be hot in the summer months–bring your refillable water bottle and fill up inside! Cold drinks can also be purchased at the front desk, but we kindly ask that sugary beverages or food are opened on your way out or consumed in the outside courtyards.
