Black Beacon Ultra 50

The Black Beacon 50 is a 50 mile mountain ultramarathon trail route with 3750m of ascent and a time limit of 22 hours. Starting in the market town of Hay-on-Wye the route heads straight up Hay Bluff and into the Black Mountains. This is followed by a beautiful high-level ridgeline traverse over several mountains summits, including the notorious Mynydd Troed, before dropping into the village of Llangynidir.

The route then crosses into the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) summiting Tor Y Foel before a stunning climb past waterfalls to the top of Craig Y Fan Ddu. Here you will be rewarded with breathtaking views as the main Beacons range now lies in wait with the climbs of Fan Y Big, Crybyn and Pen Y Fan in quick succession!

There is no rest for the legs - the short run across to Corn Du is followed by a long and fast descent to the Storey Arms Centre to cross the A470. The open fell of Fan Fawr follows, then the final climb to Fan Llia before dropping down a long descent into Ystradfellte and the fast runnable forest trails of Waterfall Country passing under (yes, under) Sgwd Yr Eira waterfall before the finish in Pontneddfechen.
