The Cape Ann Community Band will play a Viet Nam Fiftieth Anniversary Concert on Saturday, August 16, at 6:30pm at Antonio Gentile Bandstand, Stage Fort Park, Hough Avenue, Gloucester, Mass. The thirty-five piece concert band, under the direction of David Benjamin will salute Viet Nam veterans with a program designed to recognize their sacrifice and to give thanks for their service. Musical selections will include music of the sixties, patriotic medleys, commemorative pieces and a special performance of “Mekong”, based on a traditional Vietnamese folk song entitled “The Wounded Soldier”. The piece replicates the sound of Jet fighters and military helicopters in battle.The concert is sponsored by Bank Gloucester and the Gloucester Cultural Council. 

David Benjamin, Director of the Cape Ann Community Band invites you to participate in this exciting program. The band will rehearse for six weeks beginning on Monday, July 7, at 7:00pm at the Rose Baker Senior Center, corner of Manuel F. Lewis Road and Rogers Street, Gloucester. Students are encouraged to join the band.

Players should commit to at least four of our six rehearsals, including the final rehearsal on August 12. The concert will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 6:30pm at the Antonio Gentile Bandstand, Stage Fort Park, Gloucester. The rain date is Wednesday, August 20. The program is geared toward young and more experienced players. Families are encouraged to participate as well as former and current school band classmates. The music represents varying levels of ability; there’s something for everyone.

Players will need their own instruments. Players who have a music stand should bring that as well. Some stands are provided. The band is proudly sponsored by Bank Gloucester. Director Benjamin says, “We’ve always had a lot of fun preparing our concerts. It’s a supportive mood at our rehearsals. Everyone is learning and enjoying the company of fellow musicians.”
