Memorial Day Observance

The Twin Mounds Pioneer Cemetery Association's annual meeting will be Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Weather permitting, the cemetery gate will be open for auto access by 9:00 a.m. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for those who come to visit, decorate gravesites, and/or make a donation. The gate will close by mid-afternoon over the Memorial Day weekend. However, the cemetery is accessible to walkers during daylight hours even if the main gate is closed and locked. As it is so wet today, no access would be allowed due to carving ruts in the prairie sod. Like all Okies, I pray for rain, but not that weekend. As my Dad, Robert Horner, used to say, "We'll take what He sends us and do the best we can."
For those driving, 33rd West Avenue has been repaved with new asphalt, so you won't need new suspension on your vehicle after driving to the cemetery. Come out and visit, pay respect to those pioneers who brought the cemetery into existence before Oklahoma statehood. The historical markers tell some interesting stories. I find them interesting every year. I hope to see you, especially on Monday. We'll have a little down home music for you again this year. Drive carefully.
