The Glastonbury Abbey Summer Open Day returns in 2025 on Saturday 7th June.
This year’s Open Day is our biggest yet, with live music, hands-on activities and magical performances to enjoy, plus plenty of market stalls and street food on offer! We’re even extending our opening hours to 10am-8pm, giving you more time to explore.
So come along and kick off the Summer season with us!
MAIN STAGE
Enjoy live music on the Main Stage from 11:am to 7:45pm. From energetic drumming and a 100-strong choir to indie rock, trip-hop, jazz and ska, there’ll be plenty to keep you listening (and dancing) all day!

FAMILY ARENA
Located by the North Wall, the Family Arena will be hosting captivating pop-up opera and fun history talks for medieval fanatics of all ages!

Fancy raving at a silent disco, learning a medieval instrument, handling an owl, flinging an axe or wielding a sword? For a small fee, you can try out one (or all!) of our new Have-A-Go activities!
🎧 Family Rave In The Nave - Silent Disco & Singalong
Our fantastically popular silent disco returns for a special family edition at the Summer Open Day! Head to the Lady Chapel to grab your headphones and sing along to DJ Bernie’s disco favourites. Suitable for all ages.

🦉 Owl Handling Session with Owl Enlightment
Meet an assortment of Owl Enlightment's specially trained owls for free/by donation, or book a handling session for £10 to get even closer to these beautiful animals!

🎼 Learn a Tune on the Dulcimer
Enjoy wonderful acoustics in the Abbot's Kitchen as you learn to play a tune on this fascinating medieval instrument!

🪓 Axe Throwing with Planet Axe
Experience the ultimate fusion of axe throwing and cosmic wonder at Planet Axe. Step into a realm where neon lights, intergalactic challenges, and 80s-inspired alien vibes create an unparalleled adventure. Our expert guides ensure your safety as you embark on this cosmic journey, making each adventure as secure as it is thrilling!
Suitable for ages 8+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Axe Throwing will be running throughout the day. Book your spot on the day for £4 per person.
ENTRY BY DONATION
There’s no entry price for the Glastonbury Abbey Summer Open Day. Instead, we kindly ask our visitors to please support the abbey with a donation on arrival.
Glastonbury Abbey is an independent charity that relies almost solely on visitor income. It costs £14,000 to stage the Summer Open Day – on top of that, maintaining the abbey for future generations costs more than £3,500 per day.
If every visitor donated just £2, it would help us to preserve Glastonbury Abbey for future generations and ensure we can continue to provide award-winning community events like this one.
