This training course is designed to convey the basic principles of NFPA 70E (2024 edition) and electrical safety in the workplace, regardless of any prior training and/or experience. Following this course, students should be able to:
• Identify various electrical hazards in the workplace
• Explain the definition and duties of a “Qualified Person”
• Identify various NFPA 70E training requirements
• Explain common tasks considered to be electric shock and/or arc flash hazards
• Identify how to create an electrically safe working condition
• Select the appropriate risk control methods using the heirarchy of controls
• Perform job safety planning and a job briefing
• Select and use an appropriately rated test instrument
• Explain how to verify absence of voltage
• Discuss the specific justifications in which energized electrical work is permitted
• Determine when an energized electrical work permit is needed
• Explain the requirements of each of the various approach boundaries
• Perform an electric shock and arc flash risk assessment
• Identify and select the proper electric shock and arc flash PPE

Certification: 3-year certification through Arrow Safety, LLC
Disclaimer: NFPA 70E (2024) defines a “Qualified Person” as “one who has demonstrated skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installations and has received safety training to identify the hazards and reduce the associated risk”. This course is designed to cover the required safety training to ensure students are able to identify the hazards and reduce the associated risk. It is the responsibility of the student’s employer to have them demonstrate the applicable skills and/or knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installations prior to designating them as a “Qualified Person” in the workplace.
