For July, our live music event brings together two unique forces to collaborate amidst Eduard Bersudsky's marvellous mechanical sculptures. Having shared a bill together in Edinburgh in 2019, Howie Reeve and Cod O'Donnell gravitated towards each other like the circles of a musical Venn diagram. Cod collaborated with Howie on his most recent album Leaf in Fog, and Howie worked with Cod on his latest album Bug Juggernaut. In the past year they have done two UK tours and a tour of Spain and Portugal. It’s now got to the stage where, in addition to their own solo sets (where one will make a guest appearances on the other’s), a proper gig-length duo set has naturally evolved. Their appearance at Sharmanka will be only the second time Howie and Cod have exclusively played a duo set.
Howie Reeve creates unconventionally structured songs on acoustic bass that plough their own furrow in an attempt to navigate the world we live in - tender, explosive, generous, human. Cod O'Donnell's music captures the sound of the horror at the back of the biscuit cupboard - buzzing, corroded soundscapes and scratchy, oddball folk songs powered by witty lyrics and driving clawhammer banjo. Together they make for a unique and idiosyncratic combo!
“Unplugged-punk genius Howie Reeve is a linchpin in Glasgow's DIY community…a breathtaking bass player."
Nicola Meighan, The Herald
"Life affirming...fragile, funny, oozing with empathy and above all, fantastic songcraft."
James McKay on Howie Reeve
"O’Donnell has the attributes to become a cult hero nationwide."
Pictish Prism
“Compassionate and wise bag-headed savant; his musical seam is richly rewarding.”
Silas Frijer on Cod O'Donnell
