Let’s gather, share, and build something meaningful together.

Join Alyscia Cunningham, Artist-in-Residence with the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, for a youth-centered roundtable discussion focused on your experiences, your stories, and your creativity.

This event is about conversation—not presentation. We’ll kick things off with icebreakers, then explore what it means to feel connected (or disconnected) from the places we call home. Along the way, we’ll talk about community, creativity, change, and how your stories can shape something bigger.

What to Expect:
  1. Welcome & Icebreakers: Start with some good energy and quick community questions like:
  • “If you could change one thing in your community, what would it be?”
  • “Describe your community in one word.”
  1. Intro to the Event: Learn why this event is part of a creative residency and how your input matters. Learn more about the AiR .
  2. Main Discussion: Explore questions like:
  • “Where do you feel seen—or unseen—in your community?”
  • “What role does creativity play in bringing people together?”
  • “What’s one change you’d love to see in Montgomery County?”
  1. Wrap-Up & What’s Next: This is just the beginning. Learn about creative follow-ups and how you can stay involved.

Bring Your Stories to Life:
  • Every participant will receive a notebook—use it as a journal, a sketchbook, a scrapbook, or however you like.
  • You're encouraged to bring a photo or memory that’s special to you. It can be something from home, your school, neighborhood, or a moment that meant a lot to you.
  • After the event, you’ll have the option to email photos to Alyscia for printing and sharing at future gatherings.
  • You can also record your own story using your phone—like a mini “day in the life”—to share when we meet again. We’ll talk about how to do this at the event.

Media Release Info:

This roundtable will be audio recorded as part of Alyscia’s creative project. Participants under 18 will need a media release signed by a parent or guardian before taking part in any recordings.

FAQs
Do I need to bring anything?

Nope—just bring yourself and your thoughts. If you’d like to participate more deeply, you’re invited to bring a photo or memory that’s meaningful to you (can be printed or digital). You’ll also receive a notebook to use however you like—journal, sketch, or scrapbook your experience.

What if I’m not comfortable talking in a group?

That’s okay! This is a low-pressure, judgment-free space. You can share as much or as little as you like. You’ll also have the option to reflect quietly in your notebook or contribute stories later through writing, photos, or recordings.

Will this be recorded?

Yes, the discussion will be recorded as part of Alyscia’s community-based art residency. The recordings may be used in future storytelling or creative projects. Participants under 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign a media release form to be included.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Absolutely! Just make sure each person registers so we can plan for seating and refreshments. If your guest is under 18, they’ll also need a signed media release to participate in any recordings.

What happens after the event?

You’ll have the chance to continue the conversation! We’ll invite participants to submit journal pages, photos, or voice recordings (like a “day in your life”) to help shape future events. We’ll also offer updates and ways to stay connected.
