Executive Function (EF) skills are the brain’s self-management system — essential for focus, organization, emotional control, and flexible thinking. In middle school, these skills play a critical role in academic success, behaviour regulation, and independence.
In this Lunch & Learn, Occupational Therapist Mareli Joubert will demonstrate practical classroom tools you can implement immediately to strengthen EF skills in your students. You will learn how to support:
- Understand what Executive Function is and how it develops during middle school
- Learn strategies to improve Set Shifting, Inhibition, Flexible Thinking, and Working Memory

Gain tips for embedding EF supports into everyday teaching routines
