The gods are coming to Geneseo this summer as the Geneseo Community Players present “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” at McCarthy Auditorium in Geneseo Central School.
Performances will take place Friday, July 25, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 26, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and are available at gcp.ludus.com.
Adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, this musical follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who discovers he is the demigod son of Poseidon. When Zeus’s lightning bolt goes missing, Percy becomes the prime suspect. To clear his name and prevent a war among the gods, Percy embarks on a cross-country quest filled with monsters and magic.
This show is appropriate for all ages and promises something for everyone, whether you’re a longtime Percy Jackson fan or completely new to the series. The cast spans from age nine to 51.
Dylan Miller stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Mollie Herrmann as Grover, Laurel LaBarca as Annabeth and Bradley Adams as Luke. The show is directed by James Morrison, with vocal direction by Kim Coffey and choreography by Gina George.
“I read the Percy Jackson books myself as a kid, and they helped me get through long summers,” said Director James Morrison. “I thought it’d be great to bring that world to a new generation — and what better way than with a show that includes performers from age nine to 51?”
The Lightning Thief features a book by Joe Tracz and music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki. Joe Tracz, who adapted the musical’s book, is also known for his work on “Be More Chill”, “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events”(Netflix), and the Disney+ original series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Tracz is a Drama Desk nominee and Peabody Award recipient whose writing spans stage and screen. Rob Rokicki, known for his dynamic rock-infused compositions, has received Drama Desk, Lortel and Off-Broadway Alliance nominations. His music for The Lightning Thief helped launch the show from off-Broadway to a national tour and, most recently, to a West End premiere in 2024.
Additional members of the production team include Ray Suriani as pit director, Regina George as choreographer, and Kim Coffey as music director.
