TROPIC UNKNOWN - CUP TO WIN A TRIP TO COLOMBIA!

Tropic Unknown is a competition to test the finely-tuned palates of those working in specialty coffee.

20 competitors each day go head-to-head as they taste 10 sets of 3 bowls. Within each set is one bowl with the flavour that matches the allocated flavour note for that set.

Competitors must select the bowl they believe matches the flavour note before moving onto the next set.

The competitor that gets the most bowls right wins a place on Cata’s annual origin trip.

Places are available to compete at the following times:

Thursday 26th June at 5pm

Friday 27th June at 5pm

Saturday 28th June at 5pm

Scores from across the three sessions are collated together and the winning competitor is announced at the end of the final day's session.

Attendance on Saturday is MANDATORY if you want a chance to win as this is when the winner is announced. If the winning competitor isn't present for the result announcement, their place will be voided and another winner will be chosen.

• Competitors must submit their work email address when purchasing a competitors ticket
• Competitors must work for a specialty coffee business - cafe, roaster, training provider, distributor or any other similar business
• Be over 18 years old
• Be allowed to travel to Colombia

• Tickets are available for three separate sessions . Competitors can book a place at one of the three sessions.

• Two competitors go head to head on opposite sides of the table.
• Each head-to-head duel contains 30 bowls split into 10 sets of 3.
• Each bowl set has an allocated flavour which must be identified by competitors.
• Competitors must cup all 3 bowls in a set to identify which bowl matches the allocated flavour.
• To make their choice, participants push forward their chosen bowl before moving onto the next bowl.
• Once a bowl has been moved and the participant’s hand is removed, the selection is final and cannot be changed.

• Whoever has the most accurate answers will be the winner. In case of a tie break, whoever completed the cupping in the least amount of time will be considered as the winner.
• In case of equal amount of right answers and equal time an extra sudden death round will be organised.
• All rounds will be supervised by 2 judges and a timekeeper.
• Attendance on Saturday is mandatory to win.

1st place: wins a trip to Colombia for CATA’s annual origin roasters trip, as an honoured guest of Cata founders Cat and Pierre.
