About the event

Branch Out Event: An Afternoon with Aunt Liddy, a living history monologue
Join actress Anne Van Curen for a powerful portrayal of Lydia Kear Whaley, known to her mountain neighbors as Aunt Liddy. A midwife, healer, and Civil War widow who lived in Sugarlands from 1840 to 1926, Aunt Liddy was a legendary figure of the area, featured in the first chapter of β€œWomen of the Smokies.”

Known for her performances as Emma β€œGrandma” Gatewood, Anne brings Aunt Liddy’s story to life in this moving monologue. Experience a glimpse into the grit, heart, and history of mountain life and a time gone by.
