This year's Summer Reading Program embraced the theme "Color Our World", with programming centered around the arts. Throughout the summer, participants explored creative
expression through literature, theater, and painting, bringing color and creativity to their reading
experience.
The Anna Porter Public Library's Summer Reading Program encourages literacy and learning through engaging activities and community participation. The summer reading program helps
students retain the reading skills they learned during school, and helps prevent βreading gap,β a loss of reading ability while school is out. This year's arts-focused programming helped
participants discover new forms of creative expression while maintaining their love of reading
throughout the summer months.
The library will host a vibrant Color Carnival to celebrate the successful completion of its Summer Reading Program. This celebration will feature exciting activities, including a foam
party, clowning class, interactive games, and prizes for participants. The Color Carnival will take place on July 31, 2025, from 1pm to 5pm at the Anna Porter Public Library, located at 159 Mills Park Road, Gatlinburg, TN. Activities are designed for all ages, and the entire community is welcome to attend this free celebration.
Anna Porter Public Library was founded in 1932 by Anna Porter Wheaton, a resident of the area that would become Gatlinburg. Her legacy continues as APPL serves the Gatlinburg community
and the residents of surrounding counties, as well as tourists who come to enjoy all that the Smokies have to offer. We are committed to literacy and lifelong learning, and to providing a
space where all are welcome.
