Join us for a peaceful and expressive watercolor workshop focused on color harmony and creative exploration, using the elegant iris flower as our inspiration.
This session is a color study workshop designed to help you deepen your understanding of intentional color mixing and visual balance. We’ll work with a beautiful tetrad color scheme—blue, orange, red, and green—two pairs of complementary colors that offer both contrast and cohesion. Our focus will be on creating delicate transitions between warm and cool tones while keeping the painting fresh, vibrant, and emotionally expressive.
To give us more time to explore color during the session, a pencil sketch of the iris will be provided in advance. Please transfer the sketch onto your watercolor paper before the event so we can jump right into painting.
This is not a realism-focused workshop. Instead, we’ll approach the painting as an intuitive, color-driven composition—letting the brush move with feeling and the colors lead the way.
What You’ll Learn:
How to work with a tetrad color palette: blue, orange, red, and green
Creating harmony and contrast using warm and cool versions of each hue
Keeping your palette limited but expressive
Layering and brushwork techniques for loose, translucent petals
How to build an intuitive composition guided by color, not line
Please bring your own watercolor supplies
(A supply list and the reference sketch will be sent after registration.)
This workshop is perfect for watercolor beginners and intermediate artists alike who want to loosen up, experiment with color theory, and enjoy the meditative beauty of painting.
I look forward to painting with you!
—Sherry
