Celebrate World Orca Day at QAḴEM LA,E SḴŦAḴ Georgina Point

Join us for a special World Orca Day celebration at beautiful QAḴEM LA,E SḴŦAḴ (pronounced KWA-KEM LA-AH SK-THAK, meaning “seal call” in SENĆOŦEN), Georgina Point.

Opening Ceremony
A community gathering and blessing will mark the official opening of the new ḰENES SOȽ (kwun-us-saw-lh) Whale Trail installation to encourage shore-based whale watching in Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Everyone is welcome to attend and witness this meaningful event. Elders, artists, and community members involved in the project will be present to share in the celebration.

Orca-Themed Activities & Talks
Enjoy fun orca activities, interactive displays, and storytelling with Parks Canada Interpreters, they Mayne Island Conservancy and the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council. Learn more about these incredible marine mammals and their cultural and ecological importance. Afterwards, Join Mayne Island artist Chairis Camilleri for a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll design and make your own orca or salmon button. Get creative and take home a unique piece of wearable art to celebrate World Orca Day!

🐋 And who knows—maybe an orca will join the celebration offshore!
