About the event

ASCE Gainesville Branch December 2025 Lunch & Learn
Using Emerging Technologies to Transform our Transportation System

About this Event

Presentation Description- Emerging transportation technologies are driving innovative transportation technology solutions for the purposes of improving safety and decreasing congestion for the traveling public. These technologies include driver-assistance systems which are available on most newer vehicles that interact with the physical environment, surrounding infrastructure, and other road users to assist human drivers to navigate the roadways more safely. While driver-assistance systems continue to make steady incremental improvements, it has become clear that the transformative leap to the full deployment of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) will be measured in decades, not years. Jacobs is a global industry leader in CAV and our experiences including being the principal planner and engineering design of record in developing FDOT’s SunTrax CAV testing facility. Suntrax is built for the testing of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) and other innovative transportation technologies under varying and changeable configurations to create environments that are as flexible and comprehensive as possible.

Presenter's Bio- Ernest is an experienced Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Engineer with over 20 years of specialized expertise in technical design, maintenance, and operations of ITS and Tolling systems, traffic operations center, traffic signal systems, connected and autonomous vehicle systems and smart systems. He has extensive experience on projects in several states including Florida, Virginia, Georgia, and Maryland. Areas of Expertise include Fiber Optic Cable Communication design; ITS and Tolling systems design, operation, and maintenance; Connected and Autonomous Vehicle systems planning and design; Program Management of Emerging Technology projects.
