“Using the Good Bugs to Control Invasive Weeds and Insect Pests”

The Palisade Insectary got its start in the 1940’s using a beneficial wasp to control the invasive peach moth, which if left alone could have had a major economic impact on the peach crop in the Grand Valley. After that first success the Palisade Insectary has
worked to control dozens of different invasive weeds and insect pests using natural enemies. Dan will talk about the process of biological control and use of natural enemies, sometimes called the good bugs. Dan will use some of the successes such
as control of the peach moth, field bindweed, tamarisk, Russian knapweed and the toadflaxes to show what a biological control program looks like. Come and hear about the Good Bugs!
