Little Explorers Reptiles: Scales & Tails

Turtles and snakes belong to a group of animals called reptiles. Audubon has several reptilian Animal Ambassadors, and more reptiles live in the wild outside. Learn more about the characteristics and behaviors of these animals with a hands-on exploration of shells, scales, and skulls, visiting the live animals, and more.

Like many people, reptiles are most active on warm, sunny days. After a short indoor lesson learning more about the special adaptations that help them survive, head out to explore Audubon’s property and look for wild reptiles in their natural habitats. Once you see how they fit into the ecosystem, hopefully you will come to love these scaly critters, too!
