Class Description:
This class, taught by Gloria Kosco and consisting of six Wednesday evening sessions, is for anyone who wishes to delve into the rich history of wheel-thrown pottery. All levels are welcome.
Students will gain experience through hands-on exercises designed to strengthen personal methodology. We will examine how our hands directly affect the clay during the wheel’s spinning. We will identify movements that knock the pot “off center.” You will learn to define and consolidate your movements. Focusing on the upward flow of the clay, you will improve your ability to bring the clay up from the bottom of the pot. Discussions will include information on pottery from ancient times to the present.
Weekly classes include:
- 3 hours of instructional time per week.
- Clay, glazes, and firings included.
- Tools and materials included.
- Please bring your own apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy.
- Extra clay and additional Open Studio hours available for purchase.
