Join Conservation Nebraska on Saturday, August 30th from 10:00am - 12:00pm to experience the beauty and purpose of native prairies on a guided walking tour, Walk the Prairie, Learn the Land. Explore a restored grassland teeming with life as the summer flowers will be in full bloom!
This event takes place on a slice of land that farmer Randy Ruppert and his wife, Nancy Ruppert, have been restoring with native prairie species since 2005. Joining him is Ian Peterson, a horticulturist with UNL Extension in Fremont, who will share valuable insights on pollinators and land management.
This is your chance to connect with the land, learn how native plants build healthy ecosystems, and see firsthand how pollinators—from bees and butterflies to birds—depend on these habitats to survive and thrive.
As we explore the prairie together, you’ll learn what goes into managing large-scale restoration projects—from on-the-ground challenges to the rewarding moments that make it all worthwhile.
Throughout the tour, land stewards will share personal stories and lessons from years of prairie management—offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it truly takes to bring native landscapes back to life. Their experiences reflect not just the science of restoration, but the deep connection and care that fuel this important work.
Whether you're a gardener, landowner, educator, or simply someone who loves nature, this tour offers a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired. Expect friendly conversation, great company, and a fresh perspective on the land beneath your feet. This event is free, but space is limited - register early!
👟 Please wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle.
