🚨🚨🚨 METEOR SHOWER PARTY ALERT!! 🚨🚨🚨
** Monday, Aug 11, 2025 - - 9:00pm ~ 11:30am
Greetings, everyone - A blessed Sunday to you!
Apologies for this short notice - -
I posted a few days ago about our next star party for Mon, Aug 11 at 9:00pm, for the Perseid Meteor Shower. But wanted to pop on here quick and make our official announcement that we *DO* plan on being there tomorrow night for the meteor shower, even though the weather is still looking 50/50 right now - - all we can do is show up and hope for the best!
Sunset for Mon. Aug 11 is around 8:53pm, and the two-day post-Full Moon will be clearing the horizon around 10:20pm.
If the sky is clear, meteor spotting may be hampered a bit after moonrise, but the brighter ones should shine through the sky glow.
Our main focus will be the meteor shower, but we'll have the telescopes available for stargazing - ONLY if the skies clear, and there is no chance of rain.
Also, if clear skies, we'll be highlighting the summer constellations, as well as having various celestial objects viewable in each of the telescopes.
And, we'll have our regular visitor favorite, "The Constellation Tour" for Aug, highlighting the late-summer constellations!
We'll be opening the doors to the Kropscott Farm Science Building so visitors can sign-in a little before 9:00pm, and observing the night sky till around 11:30pm, as long as people are there... and the skies are clear! (Fingers crossed!) 🤞
(** NOTE ** - - Please stop by the Science Building *FIRST* to sign in before heading over to the observatory).
So... Mon. night's forecast still says partly cloudy skies, with a 50% chance of showers. But, we've seen our weather change dramatically before in a few days time, so we remain hopeful that we have a nice, clear evening! Temps for Mon. night will be in the low-70's to high-60's - - Humidity will still be high.
*** PLEASE NOTE: Observatory viewing is subject to cancellation due to cloudy skies/rain. However, on occasion, we'll have an inside program if there is inclement weather.
(Any updates or changes will be noted in the "Discussion" tab of the event here, should observing plans be called off).
We encourage our visitors - and club members - who may have their own equipment (telescopes and/or binoculars) to bring their setups, and share your own favorite night sky objects with everyone! 🔭
Admission for the evening is:
Adults - $5.00
17 and younger - $2.00
Kids under five - FREE
(All proceeds go toward the maintenance and improvement of the Wessling Observatory and Kropscott Farm property).
The Dark Sky Astronomers team look forward to viewing the night sky with you on Mon. Aug 11!
Until then...
Clear Skies! 🔭🌑🪐✨
