All WORKSHOPS include an 'educational' component, with time for discussion, sharing and most vital shared practice. This is a practice orientated training. We come together and sit in circle. Information is shared in simple 'seed' forms to 'In-form' us and guide practice. With follow up resources if you choose.

*WORKSHOP 1:Creating our Mindful Home & 1st Circle of Care.
-Foundations of practice: welcoming, safety, settling or grounding
-'Befriending' our nervous-safety-sensory systems a poly-vagal informed approach.
-What do we mean by trauma informed and how is this relevant for all of us.
-Qualities of Mindfulness practice: self-compassion, loving kindness, acceptance, non-judgement, curiosity...and more.
-We introduce you to the '3 Circles of Care' this workshop is around 'self care' we explore what do we understand 'self' to be and can you really separate the circles of care. We take inspiration from Daniel Siegels 'Mwe'.
-We explore what do we mean by 'embodiment' introducing fascial awareness and felt sense as a way of informing our direct experiencing in any given moment.
-Practices introduced for this part of our journey include building body awareness, loving kindness & self compassion, mindful movement, vagal toning.

*WORKSHOP 2: Mindfulness as Relational & the 2nd Circle of Care
-We deepen our exploration of our relationship to breath and bodily sensations. Feeling tones. Exploring how we relate to our emotions and thoughts.
-How our sensing extends into awareness of each other.
-We move into the '2nd Circle of Care', caring for each other, exploring our interconnectedness & how we are 'intraconnected' (Daniel Siegel). Belonging, connection, attunement, empathy, compassion, deep listening and mindful communication.
-Mindfulness grief & impermanence.
-Mindfulness as a healing practice.
-Our practices build on body awareness to awareness of sound, practices of compassion and listening.

*WORKSHOP 3: Mindfulness of Place & 3rd Circle of Care.
-We explore how we exist in relationship to land and place. The 3rd Circle of Caring - caring for land, the earth and things bigger than ourselves, collective caring.
-We look at how this is the beginning practice how all circles are one and come together in integration.
-All our practices throughout the program begin with recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples connection to the land and Indigenous persons globally.
-Exploring our connection to land and place, nature, plants and animals. Exploring our relationship to ancestors, future and hope.
-Mindfulness and social justice.

***WEEKLY CLASSES are an opportunity to touch base, possibly share a resource where arises and mostly share our weekly practice. Practices shared vary over the weeks and align with current workshop.

Miss a workshop or class? We intend as before to run MESH ongoing so you can sit in on a future workshop or come to Mindful Rest or another class Sydel is teaching that week. Additionally Sydel will share resources for each workshop by email and be available for questions that may arise over the weeks.

MORE INFORMATION:
"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind there are few" is a core concept from the book "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suzuki. We approach our shared practice and coming together with a beginners mind. You may be 'new' to mindfulness or a long time practitioner we share our practice with common humanity and informed by the synergy of our coming together.

All practices will be shared with the understanding that we are all unique & this will be part of our exploration creating a common ground from where to practice & discover our unique pathways. This will be a trauma informed, grief informed and compassion focused exploration.

There is a curriculum and a sharing of resources & practices that will inform our journey with some adapting as we travel.

We will shape our practice and explorations around the '3 Circles of Care' from our Caring Communities training at heart place. Sydel will be integrating the Mindful Living Program with Somatic Healing Processes informed by adapting the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to the needs of persons with complex trauma during Sydel’s time of working with refugees. This gave a realisation that all mindfulness practice is trauma informed and awareness of safety and place is our beginning practice. Also Sydel's journey with grief in the unexpected & sudden loss of her life partner gave a grief informed understanding of the mindfulness journey that has integrated into Sydel's approach of holding space for our coming together.

Sydel trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn in professional Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in his only visit to Australia 2009. Sydel has facilitated the Mindful Living Program at the Home of Yoga for over 15 years. Taught meditation and mindful yoga since the late 80's. Worked as a Trauma Informed Body Therapist with Refugees for 5 years gaining experience in teaching Mindfulness from a trauma informed perspective adapting to the needs of each individual. Sydel studied in the 80's the sociology of psychiatry at Flinders University and has been a mental health educator & licensed Mental Health First Aid instructor since 2004. Sydel has been a yoga teacher for decades and now teaches Heart Flow at Heart Place. Co founder of Home of Yoga in its 40th year and Director of Heart Place & Mental Health Station. This training also evolves from a mother’s love and desire for a kinder world for all our children.
