The Global Underscore is a special event in the world of Contact Improvisation, inspired by the pioneering work of Nancy Stark Smith. Nancy, a key figure in the development of Contact Improvisation, introduced the Underscore in the early 1990s as a structure for exploring the form in a deeper and more intentional way.


The Underscore is not just a regular jam, but a journey - an exploration of movement, touch, and presence. It offers a framework for dancers to engage in improvisation while being mindful of the collective energy and flow of the group. The Global Underscore brings together dancers from all corners of the globe for a simultaneous exploration of movement and connection that transcends borders.


Whether you're new to Contact Improvisation or a seasoned practitioner, this event is open to all levels, but don’t let this be your first experience with Contact Improvisation, as no guiding will be given during the main event. Join the introduction to the form from 15:00 to 15:45, if you never participated in the Underscore before.

𝙋𝙍𝘼𝘾𝙏𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙇 :

- space opens from 14:30, we start 15:00 and end 20:00

- we begin and end the Underscore together, so be aware to participate for the whole event

- if you are already familiar and had introduction to the form before, you can come 15:45, but encouraged that you join from the beginning

- bring an extra set clean and comfortable clothes (long sleeves and pants are recommended)

- knee pads recommended

- bring a journal and pen

- feel free to bring your favorite dance snack (there will be some chocolate, dates and fruits)
