We are partnering with Kendra’s Annual Golf Outing for our bereaved Father’s Day event! We want you to know why we partnered with them this year. Kendra’s mom is a new member of our committee and here is a little bit about them and their mission:
In 2018, our family was prepared to welcome a beautiful baby girl, Kendra. It was my first pregnancy, so I was pretty nervous but absolutely thrilled. I did everything I was told by my medical care providers, and everything seemed to be fine. A month before our due date, I was having complications with the baby- constant vomiting, dizziness, belly pains, and rapid weight gain. We rushed to the hospital to discover there was no longer a heartbeat. Devastation is the most accurate word to describe what our family felt that day.
We lost Kendra due to preeclampsia, a potentially dangerous complication during pregnancy and post-partum characterized by high blood pressure. I thought I'd get to hold my baby for a moment and she'd be gone forever. My nurse informed me there was a cuddle cot available, an in-room cooling unit designed to look like a bassinet that extends the time before changes and signs of deterioration commence. So I was able to hold her, be with her, even if it was just for a little while. I asked about places that might have discounts or payment plans for funeral and burial services. I cannot explain the relief I felt when the nurse said there were organizations that would take care of those costs. Still, grief doesn't stop when the services are over. I was so grateful to find a support group for bereaved parents and free bereavement counseling, resources I was provided upon discharge that I probably would have never found on my own.
We ask your support in providing the same relief and support to other families in need. This year's proceeds will be given to Walk to Remember, Inc., where bereaved families and their support systems walk a mile to remember the steps our babies will never take. WTR was started to inspire hope and healing through remembrance for families experiencing the loss of a baby, provide resources to area hospitals that support these families, and bring awareness to our community.”
The golf outing will be held on September 1. This is the link to the sign up
