Come make an ornament using natural materials found in July around the old Erie Canal. You’ll create an eco-printed* fabric ornament with a festive twist.

Holiday in July eco-printing is a delightful way to blend the festive spirit of the holidays with the beauty of natural dyeing and eco-printing techniques, even during the summer months. It allows you to create unique and eco-friendly items while exploring the wonders of nature's colors and patterns.

This free family friendly event is open to the public. Moderate to heavy rain cancels the event.

What is Eco-Printing?
• Eco-printing, also known as botanical printing, is a technique where natural dyes and imprints from plants are transferred onto fabric.
• Leaves, flowers, and other plant materials are arranged on fabric, often bundled and steamed or boiled, to create unique prints.
• Tannin-rich plants like oak, walnut, and maple leaves are commonly used, as they help the dye transfer effectively.
• Mordants, like alum, can be used to prepare the fabric and enhance the color intensity and permanence of the prints.
