Iowa Central Community College is calling on all youth tech enthusiasts to take part in an exciting new opportunity this summer—the Computer Networking Tech Challenge! This high-energy, hands-on camp is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of computer networking and cybersecurity through an immersive, gamified experience.
Open to students of all skill levels, the camp focuses on real-world IT skills like network setup, troubleshooting, and securing connections. Participants will work in teams to tackle progressive mini-challenges, from building and testing Ethernet cables to configuring IP addresses and adjusting firewall settings. To win the challenge, students must finally connect to Iowa Central’s Game Server and complete a final in-game puzzle.
“We wanted to create an experience that’s both fun and educational,” said Andrew Thompson, Iowa Central’s Computer Networking Technologies Instructor and Program Advisor. “Students will walk away with hands-on skills that reflect what actual tech professionals do on the job."
The camp is a great introduction to Iowa Central’s Computer Networking Technology Program, which trains students for high-demand careers in network design, system security, and IT support. Graduates of the program are prepared for industry certifications including CompTIA A+, Security+, CCNA, and Linux+, with entry-level salaries in the field typically ranging from $45,000 to $65,000.
