For those who knew Bert, you know he wasn’t just a comedian. He was a co-author of over 50 comedy murder mysteries, a founding member of not one but two sketch troupes (Generic Players and Company B), a vital member of the Left of Centre Players, and the kind of guy who could sneak a perfectly absurd one-liner into a script that made you say, “Yep—that’s a Bert line.”
Even after stepping off the Mystery Theatre Unlimited stage in 2016, Bert kept the laughs coming, continuing to write new shows in collaboration with Butch Maxwell. His comedic fingerprints were unmistakable—clever, quirky, and always just a little sideways.
We encourage friends to bring and share their fondest memories of Bert—whether it’s a flubbed performance, a scene that derailed in the best possible way, or one of those unmistakable jokes only Bert could’ve written.
Laughter is not only welcome—it’s expected.
Because Bert wouldn’t want us sitting in solemn silence.
He’d want us laughing—with him, at him, and through the tears—just like we always did.
And yes… he’d still want to know who brought the cheese tray.
