This week we'll begin by welcoming Bekki is a music teacher, songleader, and songwriter based in Philadelphia. She holds a Master of Arts in Music Education from Columbia University Teachers College, as well as a professional teaching license for PK-12 music. She’s one half of the music-for-families duo The Blumbellies, with Noah Teachey, her husband, take a playful and participatory approach to family music – their latest EP release, On the Flipside, is a small collection of summery sing-along songs for the whole family. Bekki has worked as a songleader for various holiday and life cycle events, and specializes in collaborating with organizational leaders, congregants and families to curate thoughtful musical selections for services and other programs. She’s recently joined the staff team at Folkshul to support curriculum and community engagement for all ages. Bekki teaches general music, choir, and modern band at a public elementary school, and she also designs and leads music classes for toddlers and their caregivers.
Next, we're excited to present Robin Stelly started working for the Pennsylvania Health Access Network in 2016 after working for over a decade as a community organizer around the issues of economic justice, immigration rights, and healthcare reform. Robin graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Economics. She also has a Masters in Education. At PHAN, Robin’s work involves reaching out to healthcare consumers to encourage them to share their experiences within the American healthcare system in order to defend Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and the consumer protections of the Affordable Care Act. Robin will continue to work with consumers and connect them to advocates and activists so that policy makers will have access to the concerns of their neighbors and constituents as healthcare policies are crafted and implemented.
As always, we'll have a action item as well as our usual list of hopeful news, much needed in these dismal days.
Be sure to grab a drink or snack from the remarkably wonderful High Point Cafe, who give our community a home.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
