Andi Thode grew up in northern New Mexico, USA where she fell in love with the Southwest but also began to personally experience wildfire and its’ effects. She completed her B.S. (1996) and later her Ph.D. (2005) in fire ecology through the Ecology Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. In 2001, Dr. Thode started working as a fire ecologist for the Pacific Southwest Region of the U.S. Forest. In 2005 she left the U.S Forest Service to work at Northern Arizona University (NAU) where she is currently a professor of fire ecology and fire science in the School of Forestry. Her research focuses on fire effects, landscape level fire severity, fire and climate interactions and post-fire resilience. Dr. Thode is the lead for the Southwest Fire Science Consortium, which is a knowledge exchange organization between researchers and managers in the Southwest that is over 15 years strong. She was a founding board member of the Association for Fire Ecology, and she advises the Student Association for Fire Ecology chapter at NAU. She has worked to create a Fire Ecology and Management certificate for both professionals (online) and for undergraduate students at NAU as well as an online Applied Wildland Fire Science undergraduate degree and an online masters in Forest and Natural Resource Management.

Andi received her B.S. in Environmental Biology and Management from UC Davis in 1996. She received her PhD in Ecology from UC Davis in 2005.

Peter FulΓ© is a Regents Professor in the School of Forestry at Northern Arizona University. His research lives at the intersection of forests, wildfire, climate and people across the world. FulΓ© works with students and colleagues using multiple research techniques, including tree rings to assess tree growth and forest fires over many centuries. Using models of forest growth and climate, FulΓ© tests forest restoration treatments and simulates changes into the future. He received his bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Northern Arizona University.

David Auty is an Associate Professor and Executive Director of the School of Forestry at Northern Arizona University (NAU). Originally from the UK, he earned his PhD in Forest Science from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and conducted postdoctoral work at UniversitΓ© Laval, Quebec City, before moving to NAU in 2014. His disciplinary expertise is in forest products, where he investigates wood quality and performs forest growth and yield modeling. He contributes both regionally and nationally to the Society of American Foresters. He co-developed the proposal and work plan for the Arizona Wildfire Initiative (AZWI), which was funded by the Office of the Arizona Governor. As Executive Director of the school, he is dedicated to the effective delivery of learning outcomes that meet the needs of an evolving student population and works with faculty and staff to successfully prepare graduates for careers in forestry and natural resource management.
