Collage Night
Feb 6th, 6.30-9pm
All levels welcome. 16+
Students will learn how to make framed compositions out of collage. 2-d techniques and multi-media will be used, such as markers, paints, pencils, charcoal, etc.
There will be hundreds of pre-cut images from print media for students to use freely and they will also have old magazines to cut-out there own. You are encouraged to bring your own ideas, cut-out and sketches to the night.
Using adhesives the class will be directed to build a layered image in the frame provided. Through composition, metaphor, juxtaposition of size and spacial awareness students are encouraged to push your own ideas in different creative ways all while keeping it light, informative and social.
About the Instructor: Nolan Drew
From Tsawwassen, BC and a visual artist by trade, Nolan brings experience, knowledge and passion to the studio. He began his journey with clay in first-year high school and has been in love with
the process ever since. He has earned his Bachelor’s of Fine Art in Ceramics/Painting at Emily Carr University in 2013. He has also was a resident artist at Medalta Clay Studios in Medicine Hat, AB; where he met his future wife, Mary Stankevicius, who is the clay technician here. He has lived across the country exhibiting in galleries and markets from Halifax, Winnipeg, Calgary to Vancouver. Nolan is always very eager to teach about the many skills and techniques associated with clay, weather it be wheel throwing, hand-building, coil-building or slab work. Recently moving from New Westminster, BC, he now lives and works in Fernie and is excited to be part of this vibrant community.
